Kate Evans – Scarborough Mysteries

Thursday, 9th May @ 7:00 pm 9:00 pm

In Kate Evans’s books, the streetscapes of Scarborough and the sea are almost characters in themselves.

Her novels are told through the eyes of probationary Detective Constable Donna Morris. Peri- menopausal, in her fifties, Donna has worries and secrets of her own as she settles into what she thinks will be a temporary stay in Scarborough. However, like many before her, the sea, the town and the people hook her in and she finds she cannot leave.

Kate Evans is a writer of fiction, non-fiction and poetry. Her debut book, A Wake of Crows was the first in a series – all based in Scarborough. It was followed by Drowning Not Waving (2022) and No Justice (2023).

For ten years she coordinated and taught the BA in Creative Writing, University of Hull, Scarborough campus. These days, she runs workshops and mentors in creative writing and creative writing for
wellbeing.

Brought up in Durham, Kate has lived in London, France and the United States. She chose to settle in Scarborough in 2003. Kate loves being out in nature, walking or cycling, and is an open water swimmer, braving the sea off Scarborough all year round.
